SWIFT Institute Paper Published in Journal of Financial Stability

In May 2014 the SWIFT Institute published new research from Peter Sarlin on Macroprudential Oversight, Risk Communication and Visualisation.

Peter’s paper focuses on the background and theory of information visualization and visual analytics, as well as techniques within these fields, as potential means for risk communication. He defines the task of visualization in risk communication, discusses the structure of macroprudential data, and reviews visualization techniques applied to systemic risk. He concludes that two essential, yet rare, features for supporting the analysis of big data and communication of risks are analytical visualizations and interactive interfaces. For visualizing the so-called macroprudential data cube, he provides the VisRisk platform with three modules: plots, maps and networks.

The paper has now been published in the prestigious Journal of Financial Stability.  Congratulations Peter!

Peter Sarlin is an Associate Professor of Economics at Hanken School of Economics (Helsinki, Finland), and Director of RiskLab Finland.
